Dear Credit Union Members,
As the year draws to a close and we prepare to celebrate the holiday season, I want to take a moment to reflect on the remarkable journey we've had at Heartland Credit Union in 2023. It has been a year filled with growth, community engagement, and opportunities.
Positive Growth
Our Heartland family continues to grow. In 2023, we welcomed more than 4,500 new members, and we had the opportunity to join the community of Ness City through our merger with United Credit Union. The merger allowed us to expand our branch network and provide affordable financial services to the growing number of members in western Kansas. Each new member adds vibrancy to our community, and we are delighted to have them join us on their financial journey.
Empowering Our Youth
In the spring, we introduced Smart Start Savings, our new youth savings account designed to help our youngest members learn money basics and smart savings habits that will last a lifetime. Smart Start Savings features savings rewards and resources to empower kids with the knowledge they need to take control of their savings quest.
The Salthawk Center, our branch inside Hutchinson High School, is now serving 665 members, providing a hub for learning and financial empowerment. Beyond the walls of the Salthawk Center, interns have spent countless hours leading financial education presentations to help their peers prepare for their future.
In 2023, HCU Salthawk Center interns, staff, and volunteers led 23 Bite of Reality events throughout the communities we serve, reaching more than 1,300 students. Bite of Reality is an interactive event that teaches students how to properly budget and manage money using real-world scenarios.
The Year of the Saver
In the face of rising interest rates, 2023 became the "Year of the Saver" at Heartland Credit Union. While challenges arose, they also brought forth remarkable opportunities for our members seeking attractive returns on their investments. Over the past 12 months, we've been privileged to offer savings rates that haven't been seen in years. Many of our members have seized the opportunity, taking advantage of unprecedented rates on our Money Market accounts and various Certificates.
