Beware of Fraudulent Texts

Updated 1.22.24

We have seen another spike in fraudulent activity. Many members have reported receiving fraudulent text messages similar to the examples below.

Example 1: Confirm a Purchase
The fraudulent text message asks the member to confirm a purchase by responding YES or NO. If the member responds, the scammer spoofs Heartland’s phone number and calls the member. Do not respond to the text message and do not answer any follow-up calls that appear to come from an HCU number.

Example 2: Debit Card Locked
In this instance, the fraudster claims the member’s debit card is locked and provides a link for the member to call. Do not click the link.

Remember, Heartland will never reach out to you by phone, email, or text to ask for your:
•    Online banking username or password
•    Account number
•    PIN
•    Your full card number
•    Social Security Number

Be cautious and do not give out your personal information. When in doubt, give us a call at 800.428.8472.
